Ross Castle Area

Ross Castle was built in the late 15th century. The castle was amongst the last to surrender to Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads during the Irish Confederate Wars, and was only taken when artillery was brought by boat via the River Laune. The castle has been restored and is open for tours, though, alas, no photos are allowed inside.

Ross Island (a peninsula) has several inlets full of colorful tour boats and contains several ancient pathways and ruins.
