Bodie Ghost Town

Bodie is a ghost town in the Bodie Hills east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range North of Mono Lake. A California State Historic Park, Bodie is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. It is currently preserved in a state of "arrested decay". Interiors remain as they were left and stocked with goods. It was apparently so expensive to frieght goods out by wagons during the boom, the people just abandonded anything they could not carry. At it's height from 1877-1880, 7000 people lived there. By 1900, less than 1000 people were there, by 1920 ony 120. 170 of more than 2000 buildings remain. there is much more info on the wikipedia page.
